Mark Joste

Mark is the departmental Workshops Manager for Visual Communication.

After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Editorial Photography, Mark put his well developed technical skills to use and spent 15 years in industry working with Photographers, Artists, Designers and Illustrators during an exciting time when the visual communication industry transitioned from using mainly analogue technologies to using mostly digital ones.

Mark has professional level experience in:

All formats of photography including 35mm, medium and large format film and both SLR and MF digital formats, on location and in the studio.

Film processing: colour and black & white.
Traditional hand printing in both colour and black & white and also historical, alternative and hybrid techniques.

Film and flat artwork scanning using flatbed, Imacon, Nikon and drum scanners.

Content creation/image manipulation software including Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Sketch-up, 

Aperture and Capture One for image creation/manipulation and Extensis Portfolio and Media Pro for digital asset management.

Fine art and commercial large format printing using digital exposure devices from Durst, ZBE and Océ Lightjet and Large Format Inkjet and solvent printers from Epson, HP and Roland including equipment purchase, set-up, workflow integration, maintenance and end user training.

Extensive knowledge print finishing and presentation materials and techniques.

Colour management and profile building for cameras, scanners, monitors and printers Printer rip software including Onyx, Wasatch and Versaworks.

Mark continues to work on self directed photographic projects and his photographic images are managed by Millennium Images.
